The North Eastern Council (NEC) has released the official notification for the grant of the NEC Merit Scholarship for the academic year 2024-2025. Students of the North East (NE) Region undergoing studies in different disciplines at different levels in institutions inside as well as outside the North-East but within the country can apply online for this scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria of NEC Merit Scholarship

CriteriaDetails
Resident-shipThe scholarship is open only to students who are permanent residents of any of the North Eastern States.
DurationThe scholarship is available for the prescribed duration of a course, subject to renewal conditions. Extension beyond the prescribed period of study will not be entertained.
Other Scholarship HolderThe student must not be in receipt of any other scholarship/financial assistance from any other source. Sponsored or working/in-service candidates are not eligible.
Year of Awarding ScholarshipA student shall only be considered for the scholarship in the year of commencement of his/her course.
Course/sThe scholarship is admissible to students who get admission in Diploma, Degree, Post-graduate, or registration in M.Phil./Ph.D. courses of any institute recognized by the Government.
Family IncomeThe scholarship is admissible to students whose parent/guardian’s annual income from all sources does not exceed Rs 8.0 lakh. An income certificate issued by the competent authority must be furnished.

Selection Process of NEC Merit Scholarship

  1. The merit lists will be drawn from among the finally verified applications as per the scheme guidelines and after following the laid-down procedure on the NSP.
  2. Selection of students for M.Phil and Ph.D. will be done on the basis of the topic of research/Synopsis which has relevance to the problems/issues related to the NE Region. The subjects/topics for M.Phil and Ph.D should invariably be directly, specifically, and currently relevant to the NE Region. Basic and theoretical research shall not be favored in general.
  3. The scholarship is purely on a merit basis. The merit list will be prepared exclusively on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying exams and complying with the level-of-course-wise slots allotted to the states.

Step 3Click on the Online Application Form link.
Step 4A new webpage will be opened.
Step 5Click on “New Registration” link.
